description of the human-divine relationship ever written outside of scripture:

The ONE expressing Himself as the MANY, and the MANY recognising themselves in the ONE.

It is not poetry for its own sake. It is a philosophical statement of extraordinary precision — and once you see what it means, the logic of mind renewal becomes not just spiritually compelling but rationally unavoidable.

This is part two of Why Mind Renewal Is Your Sole Responsibility. Some foundational words and phrases from part one are repeated here to highlight concepts and help clarify their relevance to Mind Renewal.

Two Words That Explain Everything

To understand Troward’s sentence, you need to understand two terms that sound nearly identical but point in opposite directions.

The first is aseity.

Aseity comes from the Latin a se — meaning from oneself. It is the theological term for God’s nature as the Self-Originating, Self-Sustaining, Self-Sufficient One. God does not depend on any cause outside Himself for His existence. He has no origin beyond Himself. He is not becoming, growing, or evolving. He simply is — always, necessarily, eternally.

This is what God was declaring at the burning bush. When Moses asked for His name, God did not offer a title. He offered a nature: “I AM WHO I AM.” (Exodus 3:14) The root of that name means self-existing — one who never came into being, and one who always will be. Jesus echoed it in John 5:26:

The Father has life in Himself.

He does not have life as a possession. He is Life as a nature.

Aseity has two dimensions. In its negative sense, God is uncaused — He owes His existence to nothing and no one. In its positive sense, God is completely self-sufficient — He has within Himself the sufficient reason for His own existence. He is the Whole. The ground of all being. The ONE.

The second word is seity.

Seity was brought into contemporary thought by Federico Faggin — the physicist and inventor of the microprocessor — in his book Irreducible. Faggin defines a seity as a self-conscious entity that can act with free will. It is consciousness, identity, creativity, and freedom fused into one indivisible whole. It is the inner self — the you that is experiencing this moment, making choices, generating meaning from within.

Faggin arrives at this concept not from theology but from quantum physics. He argues that consciousness cannot be reduced to matter, cannot be computed, cannot be simulated. A seity generates meaning from within. It is irreducible — you cannot break it into parts without losing the very thing you are trying to describe. It is the self steering the human experience. Without it, there is no experience at all.

Critically, Faggin does not see the seity as self-originating in the absolute sense. He likens individual seities to waves on an ocean — each genuinely individual, each with its own movement and form, yet inseparable from the ocean that gives rise to it. Each seity arises from and remains within what Faggin calls One — the universal field he takes to be the ground of all being.

The Relationship in One Sentence

This is where the two terms resolve into something luminous.

Aseity is the Whole. A seity is an integral part of the Whole.

God — the Aseity, the Self-Originating ONE — expresses Himself as individual conscious beings, each a seity. Each seity is genuinely itself: genuinely free, genuinely conscious, genuinely responsible. Yet each draws its very existence, moment by moment, from the ONE in whom it lives and moves and has its being. (Acts 17:28)

God has aseity by nature. You have seity by participation.

The difference is not one of kind but of degree and source. The wave is not the ocean. But it is not other than the ocean. It carries the ocean’s nature — its composition, its movement, its life — while rising and breaking as genuinely itself.

This is Troward’s sentence, unpacked:

“The ONE expressing Himself as the MANY” — this is the aseity movement. The Self-Originating Whole giving rise to individual conscious beings, each a genuine seity, each bearing the nature of the Whole within them. This is the downward movement — the ground of your existence. The reason you have consciousness, free will, and the capacity for renewal at all.

“And the MANY recognising themselves in the ONE” — this is the renewal movement. The individual seity becomes conscious of its source, aligning with the Whole. Remembering what it is and where it draws its life from. This is the upward movement — and it is precisely what mind renewal is.

Not a transaction. Not a performance. Not an achievement.

A recognition.

Why This Makes Mind Renewal Inevitable — And Irreplaceable

Here is what this means practically.

Because you are a seity — a genuine, irreducible, self-conscious being with real freedom — no one else can renew your mind for you. Not a pastor. Not a coach. Not a mentor.

The renewal must happen from within the mind itself, initiated by the will of the one whose mind it is. This is your sole responsibility. It cannot be transferred, delegated, or outsourced.

But because you are a seity that arises from the Aseity — because the ONE has expressed Himself in you, placing something of His originating Life within your inner world — you are never without the resource to do it. The power for renewal is not something you must acquire from outside. It is the very ground of your being, available at every moment.

This is the resolution Troward points to. This is what Paul was saying in Philippians 2:12-13 when he wrote:

Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

The word for is everything. Not even though God works in you. Not but God works in you. Because God works in you — because the ONE has expressed Himself within you as a living seity — therefore, you can work. Therefore, you must.

The divine working is not the reason you are excused from acting. It is the very reason your action is meaningful and potent.

When you renew your mind, you are not doing something alongside God or instead of God.

You are the site where the ONE’s working becomes conscious, directed, and personally owned.

The Convergence of Three Witnesses

What gives this framework its unusual weight is that it is not the product of one tradition or one era. It is a convergence — three witnesses arriving at the same truth from radically different vantage points.

Thomas Troward — a 19th-century British judge and metaphysical thinker, reasoning from first principles about the nature of Spirit and individuality. He sees the universe as the ONE expressing Himself as the MANY, and personal transformation as the MANY recognising themselves in the ONE. Paraphrased.

Federico Faggin — a 21st-century Italian-American physicist and inventor, reasoning from quantum mechanics about the nature of consciousness. He concludes that consciousness is irreducible, that the self is a genuine quantum entity — a seity — that arises from and participates in a universal field, the ONE. Reality, he writes, exists primarily in the experiential self-knowing of the seities.

The Apostle Paul — a 1st-century apostle, writing under divine inspiration about the nature of transformation, identity, and the inner life. He locates the site of transformation in the mind. He establishes renewal as the cause and transformation as the effect. He grounds human responsibility in divine indwelling — not as a contradiction but as its very basis.

Three voices. Three centuries — spanning the ancient world, the 19th century, and the present. Three disciplines — theology, metaphysics, and quantum physics. One conclusion:

The ONE lives within the MANY.

The renewal of the MANY is the MANY awakening to what the ONE has always already placed within them.

What Recognition Looks Like

Troward’s word — recognising — deserves to be held carefully.

It is not earning. It is not achieving. It is not becoming something you were not before.

It is seeing clearly what was always already true.

This reframes everything about mind renewal. The unrenewed mind is not a mind that lacks something it needs to acquire. It is a mind that has forgotten something it already possesses. It has conformed to the pattern of the world — the accumulated weight of memory, association, and momentum — and in doing so, has lost sight of its own source.

Romans 12:2, understood through this lens, becomes startling in its depth:

Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

The pattern of this world is not primarily outside you. It is the shape an unrecognising mind takes — a seity that has forgotten the Aseity from which it draws its life.

Renewal is recognition. Transformation is the natural consequence of a seity that has remembered what it is — an integral expression of the ONE, created to bear His nature, empowered by His life, and therefore capable of a quality of thought, choice, and being that the unrenewed mind cannot access.

The Deepest Reason You Must Do This Yourself

And so we return to where we began — but now with the full philosophical architecture beneath us.

Mind renewal is your sole responsibility, not because God is uninvolved, but because of precisely how He is involved.

He is involved as the Aseity — the Whole — who has expressed Himself in you as a genuine seity. A real inner self. A real freedom. A real consciousness that generates meaning from within and cannot be overridden from without.

To override your will would be to undo the very gift He gave — the gift of genuine selfhood, genuine freedom, genuine participation in His nature.

And so He works from within, as the ground of your willing and acting — waiting, as it were, for the MANY to recognise themselves in the ONE.

That recognition is the act of renewal.

It is the most native thing you can do — the seity exercising the very quality that makes it what it is, in conscious alignment with the ONE from whom it draws its existence.

Troward saw it. Faggin confirmed it from quantum physics. Paul commanded it from revelation.

Now it is ours to live.

Take Away

In this life, you are responsible for taking action to transform your life because God, the Self-Originating One, is working in you, and you represent Him by your participation.

Thank you for choosing to read this. because it has confused me as well when I have studied it consciously. My first encounter with this verse was when I used the mantra “Who am I?” as a meditation technique for enlightenment.

But I quickly grew tired of it and searched for something different. That was when I found the second part of this verse, which made me think deeply when I meditated upon it.

I had the understanding and inspiration to write this piece after exploring the topics of the law of the mind and mind renewal. Pondering this verse has confused me a great deal because of its apparent contradiction, but it has also enabled me to share my insight on it in the context of mind renewal and personal growth.

This work is in two parts. Part one, which expatiates the Philippians Paradox you are reading now. Part two explores this further by analysing two words, aseity and seity, which form the psychological root of mind renewal. Let’s explore part one now.

Subscribe now

Paul writes:

Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you both to will and to work for His good pleasure. (Philippians 2:12-13)

On the surface, it sounds contradictory. If God is the One working in you, why do you need to work at all? And if you must work, what exactly is God doing?

Most teaching resolves this tension by splitting the two—assigning some things to God and others to man. But that resolution misses the verse’s deeper architecture entirely. The word for in verse 13 is the key.

Paul doesn’t say “even though God works in you” or “but God works in you.” He says, because — work it out, for it is God who works. The divine working is not the reason you are excused from acting. It is the very reason you can act meaningfully.

To understand why, we need to start with the nature of God Himself.

The God Who Originates From Himself

Across spiritual traditions, thinkers and mystics have arrived at a singular conclusion about the nature of God — that He is what some have called the Self-Originating One. This is not a casual description. It points to something precise and profound.

The formal theological term is aseity — from the Latin a se, meaning “from oneself.” It refers to the property by which God exists entirely of and from Himself. God does not depend on any cause other than Himself for His existence. He has no origin outside Himself. He is the uncaused cause — the only Being who exists necessarily and eternally, drawing life from no external source.

This concept has two dimensions. In its negative sense, it affirms that God is uncaused — He did not come into being, was not brought into existence, depends on nothing and no one. In its positive sense, it affirms that God is completely self-sufficient — He has within Himself the sufficient reason for His own existence.

This is what God was declaring to Moses at the burning bush. When Moses asked for His name, God did not give a title. He gave a nature: “I AM WHO I AM.” (Exodus 3:14)

The root of this name means self-existing — one who never came into being, and one who always will be. He is not defined by anything outside Himself. He is not becoming, growing, or evolving. He simply is. Always.

Jesus echoed this in John 5:26:

The Father has life in Himself.

Unlike us — who borrow our breath, depend on food and water, and were brought into existence by others — God’s life is uncaused and unborrowed. He does not have life. He is Life.

The Life Placed Within You

Now here is where everything changes.

This God — the Self-Originating, Self-Sustaining, Self-Sufficient One — has placed something of that originating Life in you.

Paul declares it in Acts 17:28:

In Him we live and move and have our being.

God is not just the One who made you. He is the One in whom your very existence is grounded, moment to moment.

This means the locus of divine Life and the locus of your consciousness occupy the same location — your inner world. Your mind. Your will.

This is the resolution to the Philippians paradox. God is not working on you from the outside, doing something to you while you watch. He is working as you — from the inside — but only when you show up to do the work.

The divine working and the human working are not two separate acts happening in sequence. They are one act — experienced from two different vantage points.

When you renew your mind, you are not doing something alongside God. You are the site where God’s working becomes conscious and directed.

What the Mind Does When Left Alone

This is why mind renewal cannot be delegated.

The mind, left to itself, does something very predictable. It follows the path of least resistance. It defaults to established patterns. It operates by memory and association — interpreting every new situation through the framework of old experiences. It gathers momentum.

And over time, that momentum becomes identity — the same internal world generating the same external circumstances, over and over, with only the surface details changing. Unless this pattern is interrupted, it continues, and we call it fate.

This is not a spiritual deficiency. It is simply how the mind works. Patterns become automatic. Associations become assumptions. Assumptions become the invisible architecture through which we see everything.

The Apostle Paul understood this with remarkable precision.

In Romans 12:2, he writes:

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

The Greek word for transformed here is metamorphoo — the same word used to describe Jesus’s transfiguration. It is not a surface change. It is a change at the level of form, of essence, of inner structure.

And it is caused by the renewing of the mind. Not the other way around. You do not transform and then renew. You renew — and transformation follows. Paul establishes a cause-and-effect relationship that most people live backwards.

Ephesians 4:22-24 makes the structural parallel explicit:

Put off your old self… be made new in the attitude of your minds… and put on the new self, created to be like God.

Notice that Paul uses a striking phrase — “be renewed in the spirit of your minds.” The mind has a spirit. It doesn’t just have a view; it has a viewpoint, a posture, a bent. The spirit of the mind is its attitude—the mind takes on an identity over time. Renewal isn’t merely intellectual — it goes all the way down.

Share

The Scriptures on Mind Renewal — A Reference Cluster

Several scriptures form the biblical backbone of this truth:

Romans 12:2 — Transformation flows from renewal; the direction of causality matters.

Philippians 2:12-13 — The divine-human partnership in working out what God has placed within.

Ephesians 4:22-24 — The three-movement sequence: put off, be renewed, put on.

2 Corinthians 10:5 — “We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” The warfare dimension — the active discipline of evicting thoughts that misalign with truth.

Philippians 4:8 — “Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable — think about such things.” Not passive positivity, but intentional cognitive alignment.

Colossians 3:2, 10 — The renewed mind flows from a renewed identity. Knowing who you are shapes how you think.

Romans 8:5-6 — Two kinds of minds: one set on flesh, one governed by Spirit. The object of your mental focus determines the quality of your inner life.

Isaiah 26:3 — “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.” A steadfast, anchored mind is directly linked to the experience of God’s shalom.

John 5:26 — God has life in Himself. This is the foundation of everything.

Why This Is Your Responsibility Alone

No one can renew your mind for you.

Not a pastor. Not a coach. Not a mentor. Not even God, acting upon you from outside. The renewal must happen from within the mind itself, which is precisely where God has placed His Life.

The interruption of the cycle — breaking the momentum of memory, association, and accumulated pattern — is an act of will that only you can initiate. God does not override the will. He energises it. But the will must be exercised first.

This is the fear and trembling Paul speaks of — not anxiety, but the weight of knowing that you are the steward of the one thing that determines the shape of your entire inner world. To leave the mind unattended is not neutrality. It is a choice — a choice to let momentum decide your future.

Mind renewal is the interruption. It is the moment you refuse to let the default run. It is the conscious, willful act of re-aligning your inner world with what God says is true — about Him, about life, and about who you are.

And because God’s originating Life lives within you, that act of renewal is never yours alone. But it is always up to you to initiate.

The Deepest Reframe

Here is the insight that holds all of this together:

The most spiritual thing you can do is take full responsibility for your mind — precisely because that is where God has chosen to work.

To say “God will do it” while leaving the mind unattended is not faith. href="https://unsplash.com">Unsplash

My own life is a clear example of someone moving progressively from confusion to clarity. There was a season in my life when I knew nothing about life. Except to do the usual, doing what everyone is doing without reason. Going where people go without reason, and finally wanting to experience the great life some people are experiencing, and facing a dead end.

So I would ask myself questions – mind you, I experience life as an introvert, so I hardly ask others for help. Whenever I faced a challenge, I felt in my gut that I had to be doing or experiencing something great, but I didn’t know what that was.

The question that was the game-changer for me was: How do men become great? Whenever I asked myself questions, answers came in the form of inspiration. And it is always an inspiration to read a book; the book will just be there. How and where I found it to read is another mystery I am yet to solve.

But it happens, I’d find books that have the answers I need. Through one of these books, I understood that Identity is the real battlefield. And what differentiates you from others is not the unfairness of life, but the knowledge of God and yourself.

What I share in this letter is the integration of knowledge of God and self, which helped me move beyond the victimhood stage of life and keep advancing to the purest and highest end of my existence – a higher level of consciousness, through the clarity of where I come from, who I am, and where I am going.

By the end of this guide, you will understand why you feel stuck — not at the surface level, but at the root. You will see how misunderstanding God and self creates confusion, and begin the shift from inherited identity to authentic identity.

What is Identity?

Being born a child, you are under the authority of your parents. Your parents’ life experiences shape your life experiences – what they teach you is what they know about life. It is said one cannot give what they do not have.

As a child, everything you grow up knowing comes from what your parents and society at large teach you. The story of your parents. The conditions of the society. The general community life experiences. If these experiences are aligned with the qualities of expansion, connection, integration and freedom, you have a good story. On the other hand, if the quality of life experiences describe the experience of contraction, disconnection, separation and limitation, you have a bad story.

At times, it is a mix of both good and bad stories. This creates confusion in your life and makes it difficult to release limiting or fear-based beliefs. Since you see your parents and society as sources of authority in life, their stories have left you with a mixed sense of trust and mistrust.

It is not your fault. These are the stories that were already in place before you were old enough to question them. As you keep growing up, you will reach a point where the reality before you will begin to collapse. This is because the stories you have bought into will begin to lose their meaning in your understanding of life. You will begin to write your own stories. The stories that give you a meaning of life far more meaningful than what you have inherited.

Identity is the real battlefield. It is the fact of being who or what you are. Because life responds to you according to your story, your identity becomes the foundation of your life experiences.

Identity is the qualities, beliefs, or characteristics that make you recognisable. The qualities can either be from within or without you. Depending on the source of the qualities, your experience of life will depict the nature of the qualities you have accepted as your story.

Your identity is the story of you. It is the self-image you either chose or inherited from your parents and society. The story of your birth. The conditions of your birthplace, home or the community. The story of the family. The narrative of your village, city or town. And finally, your own life experiences, which are shaped by inherited beliefs or your own beliefs.

We all have a story which we keep narrating. It may look justifiable on the surface; however, the underlying principles in those stories quietly shape our life experiences. “My parents were poor.” “I was born poor.” “My family is poor.” “My father/mother died early.” “The government is corrupt”, and so on.

One significant hidden story which has been playing out silently and shaping the life experiences of the average young Ghanaian is the slave-trade and colonisation of Ghana. It is historic now, though real; it has shaped our perception of life and ourselves.

Its effect is subtly yet strongly shaping how the average Ghanaian youth interprets their worth and relates to the world. Our forefathers were captured, tortured, and imprisoned by some people who appeared superior to them. This narrative tells a story which defines an identity that we have inherited for so many years. When we celebrate Independence Day. Every demand for reparations. These continue to reinforce the inherited identity of inferiority.

I acknowledge that independence and reparations are legitimate political acts, but celebrating them without the inner identity work means the celebration does not change the internal story.

Unfortunately, inherited identity cannot be eliminated. It can only be replaced by an authentic identity. This is the inner identity work every Ghanaian youth must be concerned with. We might think we have gained independence, or demanded reparations, so these inherited identities have been gained independence from. It is not quite so.

The experiences of these stories are real. What is not real is the cause of conditioning our life experiences. They are rather the effects of an underlying cause–identity misalignment. However, they can reinforce the causes, making them seem responsible for that life experience.

The story you keep telling yourself, you experience its reality as evidence of that story. Life does not come with a fixed label attached to you. Your identity is the story through which you interpret and experience everything that happens.

The experience of reality is not reality itself. Thus, your identity has layers. You can be identified rightly or wrongly. If you depend on what society or your parents taught you about life, you will live your entire life through an inherited identity. On the other hand, if you begin to know yourself in reference to Source, you live through your authentic identity.

Your authentic identity is your true identity. That is your inner awareness of being. What you are before any labels. Your inherited identity is false or borrowed. This is based on life experiences shaped by limiting or fear-based beliefs.

What happens when you are faced with identity misalignment? What happens when that foundation is built on a borrowed story? This is the real reason you feel stuck.

The Real Reason You Feel Stuck

Think of the fresh graduate who studied for four years for a degree in economics, applied to forty jobs, got three interviews, and is now sitting at home in Keta, wondering what went wrong. He worked harder than most. The opportunity was genuinely limited.

But underneath the surface, the problem is a question he has never been asked to answer: who does he believe he actually is? What story is he telling himself about his worth, his capacity, his right to build something?

You’ve tried working harder, thinking differently, and changing your environment. And yet something still feels off. Feeling stuck is not about a lack of effort or opportunity.

It’s about a lack of clarity. You cannot move forward clearly if you don’t understand who you are.

Most people are trying to fix their lives without understanding their identity.
The challenge is the lack of clarity of identity. Your identity answers the question, “Who or what am I?”

When you answer it wrongly, your life begins to reflect that answer. We have learned from the identity section that your authentic identity is your true identity.

This is a general explanation applicable to all. You have a unique story, the self-image and qualities that only you can answer for “Who am I?”

This is the clarity that moves you forward: an honest understanding of what you believe about yourself, your unique story, and your capacity to build — all brought into alignment with your authentic identity.

The Hidden Problem

Most people define themselves by roles, past experiences and other people’s opinions.

But these are not your true identity. They are descriptions. They are the external definitions of identity–inherited identity.

When your identity is unclear, your life becomes inconsistent. This is why people feel confused, directionless, and internally stuck.

Not because life is broken, but because identity is misunderstood.

People feel stuck because of fear of loss – the loss of their external experience of identity.

Fear of losing an external identity (your job title, your family’s expectations of you, your church role) is precisely why people stay stuck even when they know better.

The difficulty is not ignorance. Most people, on some level, already sense that their external identity is inherited. The difficulty is that releasing it feels like losing themselves — because for so long, it was all they knew.

Why You Can’t Know Yourself Without Knowing Your Source

Here is what most people miss:

You cannot understand yourself without understanding where you come from.

We have learned the two layers of identity: authentic identity and inherited identity. Your authentic identity is your true identity in reference to Source.

Identity is not self-created. It is source-defined. To know yourself, your true identity, you must first have the knowledge and understanding of God. However, this knowledge and understanding come in two layers. These are direct and indirect knowing–more on this in a future letter.

Suppose your understanding of God is unclear, distant, or incorrect. Then your identity will be unstable, confused, and incomplete. Your identity problem is rooted in a source problem. To know yourself, you must first understand your source.

This is why understanding God is not a religious formality. It is the foundation of knowing yourself.

What You Are — And Why It Changes Everything

Imagine yourself standing in front of a mirror. You see a reflection in the mirror. That is your image. Every action you do there, the image does the same. It is like it has inherited everything about you. It is an extension of you, which happens to express exactly like you. This is how you are the image and likeness of God.

You are not just your body, mind, or experiences. You are an expression of the Source of life.

God is the Source of life. All things, including you, come from God. Thus, you are an expression and extension of God. The qualities of God are within you – inherent and latent.

This is your true identity. This means you carry life, you carry intelligence, you carry awareness. These are not things you lack. They are things you’ve not recognised. You are not stuck because you are lacking. You feel stuck because you are misidentified.

This understanding encourages a shift in self-perception. This is not a new identity to build. It is the one you already have — waiting to be recognised.

Share

Why Feeling Stuck Is Actually a Signal

The purpose of life is growth and expansion. When your story about life keeps you stagnant, life does not punish you. It sends you feedback. Feeling stuck is not failure. It is feedback. It’s showing you that you are trying to live from an identity that is not fully true.

Because most people have lived with an inherited identity for a long time, they tend to develop new stories to reveal their authentic identity. It feels like they are losing the life experiences that have long been guaranteed to a new identity they are not sure they can uphold.

It shows up as forcing direction without real clarity, acting from fear rather than understanding, or clinging to past experiences as the definition of what is possible.

Consider the young Ghanaian entrepreneur who has started and abandoned three businesses in five years. He blames the economy, the lack of funding, and the unfaithful partners. All of those may be partly true. But the deeper signal — the one he keeps ignoring — is that he has not yet answered the question of who he is beneath the businesses.

Each time an enterprise fails, his identity takes a blow, because he built his sense of self on the venture rather than on something more stable. The stuckness is not telling him he is a failure. It is telling him he has not yet found his foundation.

“Stuck” is not your condition. It’s a signal for realignment. Now you can stop seeing yourself as the problem. You can move beyond being stuck when you realise that your current life experience is just evidence of the story you keep telling yourself. When you change the story, the evidence, and your life experience will also change in accordance with your new story.

The First Step Forward

The work of knowing oneself, in reference to the source, is the beginning of replacing all inherited identities with our authentic identity. It is the beginning of writing a new story aligned with your authentic identity.

Most people try to take action first, then figure things out later.

Imagine a young Ghanaian professional who has changed jobs several times, moved from city to city, and eventually left the country altogether — only to arrive at the same experience of confusion in a new place. The scenery changed. The inner story did not. External change without internal identity shift produces the same result wherever you go.

But real progress works differently: Clarity → Then action.

This is the clarity that changes everything: understanding where you come from, who you are, and where you are going. This is the new story — the one that reveals your authentic identity.

The work begins with knowing God — not as doctrine inherited from others, but as a living reality you come to understand firsthand. From that understanding, you begin to see yourself clearly — not through the lens of your history, your failures, or other people’s expectations, but through the lens of what you actually are.

And from that clarity, the inherited story loses its grip. You do not eliminate it. You replace it — one new experience, one new decision, one new understanding at a time.

Simple Shift: Instead of asking “What should I do?” Start asking: “Who am I operating as right now?” The first step forward is clarity before action. This clarity begins shifting you internally before externally.

You are not stuck. You are ready for clarity.

The work of knowing God and oneself is arduous, but not impossible. Some people only begin the work of self-knowledge when confusion forces them to. That is not weakness — that is simply how most people come to this work.

Once you know God and yourself, and do the right things, you will establish your authentic identity, which will shape the quality of your life experience.

The work of knowing yourself begins the moment you stop waiting for circumstances to change and start asking who you truly are beneath them. That question is the beginning of everything.

If this resonated, subscribe to receive the next piece in this series — where we go deeper into what authentic identity actually looks like in daily life.
<p class="button-wrapper" data-attrs="{"url":"https://lifewardcoaching.substack.com/subscribe?","text":"Subscribe class="callout-block" data-callout="true">
“It is not the event that defines you. It’s the meaning you gave to the event that defines what you experience.” ~ Bashar/Darryl Ankah

There is a particular kind of suffering that comes not from what life has done to you, but from what you have come to believe about yourself because of it.

Ghana is a nation of intelligent, resilient, spiritually serious people — and yet something keeps repeating, not at the level of politics or economics, but at the level of the mind.

I am a young Ghanaian, and I do not claim to know the origin of my country, let alone know everything about her, but I have inherited what I will call “What is necessary to know.” I write not as an elder, but as someone who has lived these lies from the inside. Consequently, my life experiences are authoritative enough to speak truth, even if it’s inconvenient to authority.

The lies I am writing about are beliefs I have bought into for a long time. I have suffered from accepting them as truth, though they later proved to be half-truths — and it is the awareness of their danger that drove me to find the complete truth beneath them.

This article is not an attack on Ghanaian culture. It is an invitation to look honestly at the inherited ideas that quietly shape how we see ourselves, what we believe is possible, and who we think is responsible for our lives.

A lie, in the sense I mean here, is not always something someone told you deliberately. It is often a story that formed quietly — through culture, through church, through family, through the weight of history — and settled into your understanding as simply the way things are.

We still say ‘the sun rises’ and ‘the sun sets’ — even though we have known for centuries that the sun does not move across our sky. It is the Earth turning. The language inherited the old picture of reality, and we kept using it without question. That is exactly how these lies work.

Imagine an average market woman in Makola or Kejetia. What has she not sold, or bought and resold? You might think this woman should be among the wealthiest people you know. And yet, often, nothing comes close to that. We see her outer life — the daily labour, the transactions, the hustle. But what is her inner life? What does she believe about herself? What does she know about herself? The answer to those questions explains far more than the market conditions ever could.

Now imagine the hardworking kayaye — head-load porter, carrying other people’s goods from dawn to dusk in the heat of Accra. Few people work harder. And yet hard work alone has not lifted her out. That is not an indictment of her. It is an indictment of the belief that effort, by itself, is enough.

The wise one said, “You become what you know.” Even if what you know is a half-truth, your life will reflect just that – an incomplete and suffering life.

Our beliefs shape our perception. Perception shapes thought. Thought influences character. Character influences behaviour. Behaviour shapes life experience.

Most Ghanaian youths, including myself, are not at peace with the distance between who we are and who we sense we could become. We know there is something within us seeking expression. The gap is real. But it is not fixed. And it begins to close the moment we are honest about what keeps it open — the beliefs or the lies we have inherited without examination.

Lie 1 — “Others caused our problems, so the solution must come from outside”

The colonial wound is real. Every Ghanaian carries it in some form. The question is not whether injustice happened — it did. The question is what you do with that truth in your own life, today.

The historical grievance is legitimate. Ghana’s current challenges have roots in exploitation, extraction, and structural disadvantage that were not of our making.

When external blame becomes the primary lens, it quietly relocates your power. You stop asking “what can I build?” and start waiting for the world to repair what it broke. That waiting is understandable. But it is also costly — because life does not pause while you wait for justice.

Imagine a community attributing its poverty to the Rawlings era or colonial borders. These factors are no longer present in the same form, yet the community remains poor — and still waiting. The question worth asking is not “who did this to us?” but “what will we now do?”

The person you were made to be does not require the world to change first. Ownership is not naivety about history. It is the decision to be the origin of your own life rather than its consequence.

Lie 2 — “Breakthrough comes through prayer, prophetic declaration, or the right anointing”

Ghana is a deeply spiritual nation, and that is genuinely beautiful. Faith is not the problem. A particular relationship between faith and action is.

There is a real and living God. Prayer is not nothing. The spiritual dimension of life is not superstition — it is a reality that your whole framework is built on. Do not shrink from this.

When faith becomes a substitute for agency rather than a foundation for it, something has gone wrong — not with God, but with our understanding of how He works. The expectation that a breakthrough arrives without the disciplined use of the mind, the hands, and the will is not actually Biblical. It is cultural. “Pray as though everything depends on God. Work as though everything depends on you.” Faith and effort are not opposites in scripture — they are partners.

Walk through any neighbourhood in Accra on a Friday night, and you will find prayer camps full of people seeking the miracle that will come — they believe — without the skill, the plan, or the discipline that the miracle requires to land.

God works through the person He made. And the person He made has a mind, a will, and a capacity for disciplined action. Your prayers are most powerful when they flow from a life that is also fully engaged.

Lie 3 — “A degree is the surest path to a good life”

Share Lifeward Coaching

Every Ghanaian parent knows this one. “Go to school. Get a certificate. Secure your future.” It is love speaking — but it is love operating from a map that no longer matches the territory.

Education matters. Formal learning has genuine value. The desire for it is not misplaced.

When the certificate becomes the goal rather than the understanding it is meant to represent, something is lost. You can spend four years in a university and leave with a scroll but without the capacity to think critically, create value, or solve real problems. The lie is not that education is worthless. The lie is that the credential alone is sufficient — that having studied is the same as having grown.

Ghana produces thousands of graduates every year. Many of them are sitting at home right now, certificate on the wall, scrolling job boards, waiting to be chosen — never having been taught to create rather than qualify.

What transforms a life is not the paper. It is the quality of mind behind it. A person who knows who they are and how to think will build something meaningful with or without a degree. A person who does not know themselves will remain stuck even with several.

Lie 4 — “Hard work alone is enough. Just grind.”

Ghanaians work hard. This is not in question. The hustle is real, visible, and admirable. And yet, the grinding often fails to produce what it should.

Effort matters. Discipline matters. Showing up consistently matters. These are not lies — they are genuine virtues.

Hustle without direction is not virtue — it is exhausting motion. Working hard in the wrong direction, with the wrong beliefs about yourself, inside systems that are not designed to reward your effort, can produce decades of labour and very little life. Hard work is necessary. It is not sufficient. What you believe about yourself while you work determines whether the work compounds into something or simply consumes you.

Return for a moment to the kayaye and the market woman. Both are living this lie — not out of laziness, but out of a belief about themselves that effort alone cannot correct.

The question beneath the grind is always an identity question. Who do you believe you are? What do you believe you are capable of building? What do you believe you deserve? The answers to those questions shape everything that the effort produces.

Lie 5 — “The right government, the right leader, or the right system will fix things”

Every four years, this hope resurfaces. And every few years, it disappoints. Yet the belief persists — that somewhere out there is a leader wise enough, honest enough, powerful enough to turn the tide.

Leadership matters. Governance matters. Systems are real, and they shape outcomes at scale. It is not foolish to care about who leads.

Every December, Ghana holds its breath. The right party wins. The hope surges. Four years later, the conversation is the same — just with different names on the banners.

No leader transforms a people whose collective inner life has not shifted. Nations are not saved from the top down. They are renewed from the inside out — one person at a time, choosing to think differently, live differently, and hold themselves accountable differently. When you outsource the responsibility for your life to a political figure, you have made the same error as outsourcing it to external forces or to divine intervention alone. You have removed yourself from the story.

The most powerful political act available to you right now is becoming a person of integrated identity — someone whose inner life and outer life are aligned, who produces more than they consume, and who holds themselves to a standard that does not depend on what the government does next.

These five beliefs are not signs of weakness. They are the natural result of inheriting a world that had already decided certain things about you before you arrived. The question is not whether you received them. Most of us did. The question is whether you will examine them — hold them up to the light — and decide which ones are actually true.

You were not made to be the product of your circumstances. You were made to be the origin of something. That is not motivational language. It is a description of what you actually are.

The beginning of wisdom is to know what you do not know. Or better stated, “The beginning of success is the knowledge of one’s faults.”

Our faults, as Ghanaians, are the beliefs we have inherited without examination. Beneath them is something truer: we are each an expression of God — made to reflect something of Him uniquely in the world. These lies do not just limit us. They delay what God intends to express through us.

The most important distinction we can learn is this: reality and our experience of reality are not the same thing.

What we have inherited is an experience — a particular way life has felt and appeared to us. But it is not a fixed description of what life must be. The map is not the territory. And a new map begins with knowing who is holding it.

The work of knowing yourself is the beginning of everything else.

It takes a second to become successful — the second you have decided to become someone.

Dr David Hawkins

If this resonated, the next piece in this series goes deeper into what identity actually means and why it changes everything. thinking.
Write something without thinking.
Say something—without thinking.

Impossible, right?

That simple observation reveals something most people internally. Not externally.

What is thought, really?

Every experience you’ve ever had is an expression of thought.

Thought may be invisible, but it shows up in two ways:

Internally as feeling

Externally as a form

Ancient wisdom—especially in scripture—makes this clear:

Everything begins as an idea → becomes a concept → then becomes a word.

A word is simply an organised thought.

And we’re told:

Without the Word, nothing was made that was made.

Meaning?

Without thought, there is no experience.

So, if your life is a product of thought…

Then a new life requires new thought.

Thoughts are not abstract—they are real

This is where many miss it.

Thoughts are not “just in your head.”
They are things.

They carry:

Energy

Frequency

Vibration

And because of this:

Every thought produces a unique experience.

No two thoughts are the same.
So, no two life experiences are the same.

That’s why mind renewal is not optional if you want a new life.
It’s foundational.

Why mind renewal is necessary

There’s a mystery to the mind.
Where do thoughts come from? search began, I heard a statement.

“God is a concept.” This statement was the straw that broke the camel’s back. A concept? Who even developed the idea that God is a concept?

I didn’t take it lightly, though, because I regarded God highly when I first heard about Him. The Being that, or who, created the entire universe, is to be reduced to a concept.

I probed further to understand what was meant by that. I discovered that most of the world’s religions agree on about 80% of what life is about. What happened to the remaining 20%?

When it comes to God’s identity, there is about 20% disagreement. This is even the reason we have so many religions in the world.

When it comes to either saying God is It, He or She, disagreements which have bred confusion, separation and suffering for humanity are engendered.

Two strong concepts, or views of God’s identity, exist, and our world is built and experienced through these two concepts.

God as Principle, and God as Person.

I have realised there are two different views of the same thing: the principle, and the expression of the principle. The issue is accepting one view while rejecting the other, but an integrative approach is needed to understand God completely.

This teaching carries a simple intention:
to offer clarity that leads to effective living.

God sits at the centre of human life—whether acknowledged consciously or not. Every pursuit of meaning, morality, purpose, and destiny eventually touches this question:

Who, or what, is God?

To live effectively, one must first understand rightly.

Two Ways Humanity Has Understood God

Across cultures and centuries, humanity has approached God through two primary lenses:

God as a Person

God as Principle

Each perspective attempts to describe the same Reality. Each contains insight. Each also carries limitations when held exclusively.

Truth is not determined by sentiment, but by effectiveness—by what brings clarity, order, responsibility, and life.

God as a Person

To view God as a Person is to imagine a sentient Being with awareness, will, intention, and relational capacity. This view emphasises prayer, communication, moral accountability, and divine intervention.

For many, this concept provides comfort, meaning, and a sense of relationship.

Yet when taken literally and in isolation, this perspective often poses difficulties.

Limitations of the Personal Concept

When God is imagined strictly in human terms, several distortions arise:

Anthropomorphism
God is reduced to human emotions, preferences, and reactions.

Separation
God is perceived as distant—above, outside, or apart from life.

Dependency
Responsibility subtly shifts away from the individual toward divine favour or punishment.

Fear-based morality
Life becomes governed by reward and punishment rather than understanding.

Many inherit this concept early in life, not through inquiry, but through tradition. When unexamined, it often produces confusion, fear, and irresponsibility rather than maturity.

God as the Principle

Another way of understanding God is as Principle—the underlying Reality, Law, or Life that animates all existence.

From this perspective, God is not a form among forms, but the formless essence from which all form proceeds.

God is not something you encounter occasionally.
God is the Life by which you exist continually.

The Life Principle

All creation inherits the nature of its source.

If God is infinite, then the qualities of God—intelligence, responsiveness, creativity—are infinite. These qualities appear in creation in degrees, personalised through form, yet sourced from the same formless Reality.

Scripture names this Reality simply as I AM—without predicate.

“I AM” is not an object.
It is Pure Being.

Scripture Reconsidered

When scripture says:

“The Kingdom of God is within you”

“God dwells in you”

“In Him you live, move, and have your being”

It does not describe a physical indwelling of one person inside another.

It is revealing a spiritual truth:

God is the Life Principle animating all living things.

A king dwells in his kingdom.
If the Kingdom is within, then the King must be understood as Principle rather than form.

Form and Formlessness

God is not a person because a person is a form, and form implies limitation.

Yet God expresses personality through persons.

Each human being is a concentration of divine intelligence and responsiveness, uniquely expressed. This explains both unity and individuality without contradiction.

God is not made in man’s image.
Man is an expression of God’s nature.

Responsibility Restored

When God is understood as Principle rather than a distant Person, something important happens:

Responsibility returns to the individual.

Life is no longer something that happens to you at the discretion of an external deity. Life becomes something you participate in through consciousness, alignment, and understanding.

This does not eliminate reverence.
It deepens it.

Integrating Both Understandings

Wisdom does not demand rejection.
It demands integration.

A mature understanding of God allows for:

Personal devotion without superstition

Principle without abstraction

Relationship without dependency

Unity without loss of individuality

God can be approached personally, while understood principally.

This was what changed everything for me. How I understand God shapes how I relate to the world at large. And it has been nothing short of peace, freedom and effectiveness.

A Quiet Orientation

This teaching is not meant to argue theology.
It is meant to restore clarity.

Sit with this recognition:

God is not distant from life.
God is the Life by which I live.

Let understanding mature gently.

Closing Reflection

Why is it important to understand God integratively? God is the centre of our lives. What you know about Him, rightly or wrongly, shapes how you respond to life. If you hold onto only one aspect of Him while rejecting the other, you will reflect just that.

An integrative mindset is needed to understand God clearly, not being an extremist, choosing this side or that, but being open to know God all-around for effective living.

These questions help me reflect daily on the meaning of life and receive insights and inspiration to live an effective life. You may incorporate them to help you get clarity of God’s identity and your understanding of Him.

How has my concept of God shaped my sense of responsibility?

Where might fear have replaced understanding?

What changes when God is understood as Life rather than distance?

Thank you for reading. confidence

I have had a moment in Life. This was a deep contemplative moment of my life. I questioned life’s seemingly “unfairness.”

What really makes people, just anyone, confident? Confident enough to take the initiative?

I share what I’ve learned about life concerning success and confidence.

You’ll learn the secret of confidence, your awareness of being as God, and your true identity as the image of God.

They say, success breeds confidence.

Yes, in the success momentum cycle. You have one success, it built confidence, that confidence creates more success habits, and those success habits create more successes, and the cycle repeat over and over. So confidence is built upon experience or success.

However, I have a different view. This is the clarity you need to know about confidence. Here are the secrets of confidence as I’ve contemplated them.

The secret #1

The first secret success you ever need is not a material success to build confidence. The 1st success you ever need to build confidence is the success of the knowledge of God.

When you have the knowledge of God. You know exactly what this life is all about. When you can answer.

Where do I come from?

Who am I?

What am I here for?

How am I doing?

Where am I going?

When you can answer these questions perfectly and successfully, you can build confidence.

Know what God is, not just a who. When you know God, as the life principle—the life that pervades all living, and is at the heart of all appearances. The very thing that makes you alive right now, as you are reading this post, is God.

Neville Goddard called it, the awareness of your being, your “I amness.” The recognition that you exist, that is God. This knowledge, constitutes what we call faith—familiarity with God. Faith simply is familiarity with God, knowing God to the point where you know who He is, what It is and how He works.

The Bible reveals this secret subtly. Moses, knows the ways of God, and the children of Israel, the acts of God. The ways of God are more important than the acts of God.

He says that, do you know the ordinances of heaven, and can you, therefore, set their dominions upon the earth? This is about knowledge of God.

Job said, “I've heard you by the hearing of the ear, by now my eye sees you.” These are 2 ways that we know God in this scripture. One by hearing—we listen, we read books about God, we listen to people, we listen to testimonies. We have a subjective knowing of God.

Then the 2nd one is “my eyes, see you.” This is objective knowing of God. You know God for yourself, 1st person experience. 1st person experience, not somebody narrating God to you. You have become aware of God in every moment of your life. You have your experiences with God, your heart moments, your revelations, everything all by yourself as an individual, not influenced by any third party.

This knowledge of God. This understanding of God is your 1st secret to building confidence in life.

The secret #2

And the 2nd secret success is the knowledge of yourself. Of course, the knowledge of God is synonymous to the knowledge of yourself, and vice versa, the knowledge of yourself is the knowledge of God.

Once you know God, you know yourself. You know that you are the image and likeness of God. The image defines your true identity as an expression and extension of God, and every quality and nature of God is inherent and latent within you.

You are an individualized god. The Bible recognizes this subtly, “I've said you are gods, and all of you are children of the most high.” You are a god, in quality, not in quantity yet, and you are a child of God. That is your image, and your likeness, is how you work as God works.

We are co-creator with God. We collaborate with God. We go to him, we reason together. We make our request known to him, and he answers as He provides us whatever we ask for, because he said, you have not received because you have not asked.

Your knowledge of yourself as the image and likeness of God, understanding yourself as an expression of God, an ego, whose role is to help you have the experience of this reality.

All these builds up or constitute your second secret that breeds confidence. When you know God and you know yourself, you become confident, and you can go about life without any intimidation, without any limitation, without feeling as a victim of life.

The foremost success for confidence

Thus, it is true, success builds confidence, experience builds confidence. But the 1st success that you need to build your confidence to live your life. Freely, without any limitation is the success of the knowledge of God and of yourself.

Now, you know who you are. You know where you come from, you know why you are here and what you are here to do and where you are heading to.

This is the confidence you need to take the initiative, to do whatever thing you want, to start whatever thing you want to start in this life, without feeling limited, not deserving, not enough.

This is your foremost success for confidence. This success precedes, and pervades all other successes you’ll have in this life.

Now, take the initiative without fear, intimidation, and limitation.

Lifeward Coaching— Full Season Remix

Together.

Albert Blibo

Together.

While you anticipate the upcoming season of the Clarity Podcast, I have put together the entire season 1 you can listen to in one go.

In this final episode, refresh your memories of what you have learned about KNOWING GOD, KNOWING YOURSELF, and UNDERSTANDING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YOU AND GOD.

These 3 pillars form a strong foundation for the Lifeward Coaching Framework. Knowing Yourself. Understanding the Relationship.

Every transformation begins with understanding.

The Lifeward Coaching framework is built on five foundational pillars — not as abstract ideas, but as principles that govern how life is experienced.

In this final episode, we bring the first three pillars together:

Pillar I — Knowing God

God is the Source of life — characterized by intelligence, energy, and responsiveness. They reveal a principle.

Our identity as children of God describes who we are.

Our relationship with God describes how life operates through us.

When this relationship is misunderstood, life feels fragmented and reactive.

But when it is understood, we begin to see how divine life expresses itself through our thoughts, choices, and actions.

Understanding this relationship allows us to consciously participate in creation — not as independent sources of life, but as expressions of the One who animates all things.

This episode explores how recognizing this relationship transforms the way we live, think, and create.

This is Pillar III of Lifeward Coaching:

Understanding the Relationship Between You and God.

Lifeward Coaching Inc. If the image speaks of our origin in God, the likeness speaks of our ability to express and create as God.

Scripture says, “You are gods, and children of the Most High.” Yet many people still experience limitation, confusion, and suffering. Why?

Because identity is only partially understood.

We may recognise the image, but misunderstand the likeness.

The likeness refers to the functional aspect of our identity. It reveals that we are thought expressed — conscious beings capable of generating thoughts that shape experience.

In this sense, we participate in creation itself.

Not as independent sources of life, but as expressions of the Source, co-creating with the divine principle that animates all things.

In this episode we explore:

The difference between image and likeness

What it means to create as expressions of God

Why misunderstanding our creative nature produces suffering

How thought participates in the process of manifestation

How to live consciously as an expression of the divine likeness

To know the image is to understand your origin.

To understand the likeness is to understand your creative capacity.

This is Pillar II of Lifeward Coaching: Knowing Yourself.

Lifeward Coaching Inc. Conflict reduces.
